Benalmadena Holidays - Ever so slightly more upmarket than neighbouring Torremolinos, Benalmadena is located close to the resort of Fuengirola on the other side. Boosted by the arrival  of the magnificent Puerto Marina, the resort has gained a good deal of sophistication as a result and is a premier Costa del Sol resort..

For unbeatable Spanish holidays, the yachting marina, beautiful Puerto Marina, is full of opulent sailing craft and part of the complex includes apartments and commercial shops, all constructed in magical Moorish style, complete with turrets and crenellated edges. At night, the reflections on the water make for romantic views from any of the large selection of restaurants which overhang the marina. Lots of good bars and cocktail pubs have al fresco terraces where a post prandial drink is de rigueur.

The beach in Benalmadena is the usual high quality sandy offering one expects from holidays in Costa del Sol and it is well flanked by good local bars and "chiringuitos",  ideal for a long leisurely lunch or cool drink to enjoy views of the beach and all its comings and goings. The resort has loads of good bars, pubs and Irish bars - you can even get a full Irish breakfast, if you're hopelessly homesick!

A holiday in Costa del Sol would not be complete without a short hop on the local bus to nearby Torremolinos or Arroyo de la Miel as it's the answer for sufferer's of retail therapy withdrawal. The market here is huge fun and has a vast choice of goods. Just don't forget to haggle. You can also get a decent lunch in the village or enjoy a coffee in the plaza and indulge in the endlessly interesting hobby of people watching.

The local 18 hole golf course at Torrequebrada is both challenging and enjoyable and very accessible from Benalmadena. Or, if you enjoy a flutter at the tables, Fortuna Casino is the place to lose your shirt or become a blackjack millionaire!

If you're travelling en famille, be sure to visit Tivoli World, one of the country's largest theme parks teeming with amazing attractions, rides and all round entertainment.

Take the local bus one day and visit the pretty town of Marbella, enjoy "chocolate con churros" in Plaza de las Naranjas with the locals or walk to Puerto Banus where you might have the chance to celebrity spot! Glitzy and glamorous, the marina here was a second home for an international set of playboys and nautical naughties.

Benalmadena however is a more comfortable resort where there are no pretensions, just a big beach, lively nightlife and excellent entertainment - a winner for a holiday in Costa del Sol. Although there are no flights to Benalmadena, there are direct flights from Ireland into Malaga on a frequent basis.
