La Pineda
La Pineda resort is a quieter and more modest neighbour than nearby Salou, so La Pineda is the one you'd like to live in or live beside! Only a few klms from the more hectic resort of Salou, La Pineda is a lovely, laid back resort which sits atop a slight hill and overlooks the warm waters of the Mediterranean on Spain's Costa Dorada or Golden Coast.
La Pineda has a super stretch of shimmering sandy beach (a Blue Flag winner) which arcs in a gentle curve for about 3 klms. Shallow and safe for swimming, the beach area becomes busy at weekends (and the locals enjoy holidays here, so that's a sure sign the resort is of high standard!) and a good watersports school provides the necessary activities such as waterskiing, pedaloes and windsurfing for the less indolent. Plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas are on hand for the lazy bathers though!
A decent selection of pavement cafes, local restaurants, busy bars, supermarkets and tourist shops line the streets, but apart from weekends, La Pineda is pretty much a family resort where the pace of life is definitely relaxed and the more raucous elements of other resorts are fairly unknown in these parts.
Taking it's name from a type of flowering willow, La Pineda has many scented pine trees adding to the natural look of the resort and a pretty palm-lined promenade for strolling provides some gentle evening exercise. Attracting lots of visitors during the summer months, the amazing Aquapolis waterpark (right on the seafront) provides fabulous family fun with water chutes, daredevil rides, pools, sealion and dolphins shows daily and even hydrotherapy treatments.
La Pineda is located approx. 3.5 klms from the wonderful PortAventura theme park also, so more superb entertainment is close at hand. Families and couples will appreciate the charms of La Pineda with it's convenient situation close to Salou and only 1 hour's drive from beautiful Barcelona.
