Destinations / Croatia / Dubrovnik Riviera
The Dubrovnik Riviera is a place of immense natural beauty. Imagine a coastline that is indented with private coves, shrouded in pine-clad hills, lapped by a sea that is at once turquoise and ultramarine and dotted with off-shore islands.
Bernard Shaw proclaimed: "If you want to see paradise on earth, come to Dubrovnik". The 'Pearl of the Adriactic' is stunningly dramatic, picturesque and old worldy. Jutting out into the Adriatic, the old city of Dubrovnik is protected by massively thick walls built between the 13th and 17th Centuries and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Medieval style cobblestoned streets, meandering alleys, baroque buildings and marble squares all huddle within the walls and provide the most atmospheric location for strolling and people watching.
Outside Dubrovnik's walls, the landscape is quite hilly, covered in lovely pine forests whereas the coastline is indented with secluded coves and beaches.
The little resort of Cavtat (15km south) has become popular with tourists. Huddled around a sheltered cove, Cavtat is a very pretty town which gets immensely busy in summer months. Stroll along the boardwalk, sip a coffee at one of the elegant cafes or enjoy a leisurely lunch in a delightful open-air restaurant. You can easily get to Dubrovnik by local bus or short ferry ride.
Holidays in Mlini are delightfully tranquil and the atmosphere is one of pure relaxation. The phrase "blink and you miss it" could relate to Mlini as the village is tiny, has a delicious local ambience and the feeling that time stands still is palpable. Virtually untouched by commercialism, a holiday to Mlini is an experience of local Croatian life where a mild climate, beautiful natural surroundings and a laid back atmosphere await the eager visitor.
The Dubrovnik Riviera is full of historical treasures, magnificent monuments and local museums, so Croatia holidays can be full of sightseeing, beach relaxation and shopping for lovely crafts and souvenirs. The waters along the coast are ultra clean, turquoise and translucent, so swimming and sailing are heavenly.
